BE OPTIMISTIC

Hi Y’all!  As a mother, grandmother and great grandmother, I’ve experienced my share of lessons. I believe, as long as we keep learning, we’ll stay young and never grow old. Keeping ourselves open to new ideas prevents ugly narrow mindedness.

This is the first of my blogs. In fact, I had to google the word blog before I could really understand what blogging is.

About 10 years ago, I was the editor of our little neighborhood newspaper. Because of some negative attitudes that were circulating in our village, I decided to start a column titled “Be Optimistic”. Each month I’d suggest ways to change our attitudes toward the present problems and therefore become optimistic in our daily lives with our neighbors.

I started off by suggesting the use of optimistic adjectives to describe the days of the weeks and the months.  An example could be a Marvelous Monday or Terrific Tuesday in say… a Jubilant July.  This went over big to my joy and created lots of smiles and even a few letters.

I used my dazzling day and magic month at a government building where I had to pay a bill. As I left, I wished the clerks “Have a Wonderful Wednesday at the end of this Fabulous February” . Three of them piped up one after the other with smiles on their faces wishing me a Magnificent March, then an Awesome April, and a Merry May.

You can also tell this to the face in the mirror each morning as you’re getting ready for your day. In fact, tell the one(s) you live with, to wish them a special day. You’ll get smiles unless of course they’re teenagers (I guarantee they’ll think it over). What a great way to start off the day.

The dictionary is loaded with positive adjectives from which to choose. And, of course you can google “list of positive adjectives.”

Try it consistently for a week, you’ll get hooked and this can be contagious when you mean it as you say it with a smile. Remember the clerks in the office?

Thanks for reading my very first blog. Hope to be with you next week
